J&K Govt Announces Winter Vacation for Kashmir and Jammu Winter Zone Schools
Srinagar, 25 November: The School Education Department of Jammu and Kashmir has officially announced the winter vacation schedule for all Government and recognized Private Schools in the Kashmir Division and the winter zones of Jammu.
The order, issued under Government Order No. 665-JK (Edu) of 2025, confirms that the break will be observed in phases based on class level.
According to the notification, pre-primary students will be the first to begin their holidays, with the vacation starting on November 26. Classes from first to eighth standard will follow from December 1, while students of ninth to twelfth standard will close on December 11. All vacations will run until the end of February, in line with the long winter break traditionally observed in these zones.
Officials said the phased schedule has been fixed to ensure the safety and comfort of younger children as temperatures continue to fall across the Valley and upper Jammu areas. The government noted that the decision follows a review of the prevailing weather conditions and the needs of students during harsh winter months.
The order also includes clear instructions for staff. Teachers have been asked to remain available for academic or administrative duties during the vacation period whenever required.
All teaching staff must report back to their schools on February 20 to prepare for reopening and to ensure smooth resumption of classes. The government has warned that any violation of the schedule by school heads or faculty will invite strict action under service rules.
The announcement brings clarity for thousands of families who have been waiting for the official schedule as the cold intensifies. Schools across Kashmir and the winter belt of Jammu are now preparing to close in accordance with the phased plan.
